Psychedelic Sound Art
My goal is to find a psychedelic non musical sound artist for my task to find and research a sound artist however my research has lead me to find out about the “swinging sixtes”, 1960s the musical space was dominated by psychedelic folk, psychedelic rock and acid rock bands. Psychedelic Rock influenced by hallucinogens which expand the mind helping creatively with the use of marijuana and LSD.
Famous bands such as the Beatles, Byrids, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix was very popular in the “swinging sixtes” era.
The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators
My research lead me to found this famous album, “…the darker more psychotic frizzy of acid rock…” “…overdriven guitars, amplified feedback, and droning guitar motif influenced by Eastern music”.
The instrumentation is very influenced by the rock genre however it’s also heavily influenced by a psychedelic theme. The tones have been manipulated to create this psychedelic effect which is an effect I would like to apply to my projects in future.
