Hard House Bass Line
This video has given me an understanding of structural elements and production techniques of how to create a hard house bass line using the DAW FL studios.
Production Methods and Techniques
Tempo
- 150bpm
Kick
Start with a hard house kick, be aware of the notes key.
Bass Shots
- Add bass shots
D is a recommend key.
- Optional you can double/triple the notes
Key Tip: Shorten and cross fade
Alter in piano roll to shorten so bass shot won’t clash with the kick.
Production Techniques for the Kick
- LFO Tool
- Side chain -4
See the wave form and adjust accordingly therefore bass shot won’t clash with the kick.
Copying and layering another bass using higher or lower interns of EQ frequencies.
Compression
- Add Multi Band Compression to the Kick
Achieve more punch.
You can use presets, “Mastering 6dB”.
Turn down the gain if necessary to avoid distortion.
Single Bass Line
Key Tip: CTRL down arrow lowers the octave, low end bass creates more recognisable hard house.
- Add high hats every third note per bar, 3/4
- Add clap every first note every 2 bars, 1/4
- Add drum loop to fill any emptiness
You want the drum loop rising in key creating movement
- Add high end drum loop
- Add crash first note per 8 bars
Hard Trace Bass Line
Creating Mid Bass
- Add hard kick first note every bar, 1/4
- Add multi band compressor (Preset mastering -6dB)
- 140 BPM
- Add clap every second note every two bars
- Layer two claps with different frequencies to achieve better more full sound
- Add FX loop rising in key creating movement
- Add open hats every third note per bar
- Add crash first note every 9 bars
Creating Sustaining Notes
Using sample pack create sustaining notes four notes long per bar.
- Slot – LFO Tool Side Chain (Preset -6dB) to adjust wave form to avoid clashing and clipping
Using fruity parametric EQ 2
- Cut unheard low frequencies
- Slightly boost low end frequencies
- Increase mid range frequencies
- Cut high end frequencies and cut unheard frequencies
Creating a Second Mid Bass
Use second and fourth notes for the first bar and third and fourth notes second bar and repeat
- Lower octave
- Increase cutoff
Add another bass line
- Triple the notes or add single plucked bass line
- LFO waveform adjustments ensure no clashing or clipping
- EQ cut unheard lows, incase lows and mids
Open hats
- Apply to Slot 1 – Fruity Blood Overdrive
In conclusion of my research I want to apply my knowledge to some poetical work and attempt to create my own hard house/trace bass line.
