Setup Session for Foley
Setting up a session with the use of a pre-set setting, and markers for spotting notes is so important, especially in a professional setting this will avoid wasting Foley artists and studio time.

Tracks & Groups
We learned about the grouping of tracks…
- Moves: record the character’s movements (clothes)
- Feet: record and sync the footsteps of the characters
- Spot FXs: record all sound effects in sync with visual
Composition/Foley Room Introduction M109-M010

Rory our technician and our personal wizard gave us an induction for composition and foley rooms to use on our own. This was very exciting to learn how to use a studio of such high capability.
Important Infomation
- Run pro tools in rosetta mode (Right-click, Get info, Run rosetta)
- There is a booklet to read filled with useful information on setting up the studio
Today’s Lesson: Foley
Today’s lesson was a very fun activity. Using the foley studio we put into practice recording foley. Me and my mate Ben and I ended up becoming the Foley Artists for the class activity. Nerve-wracking as it was, it was very fun.

Foley Facts
The name Foley origins from Jack Foley an amrican sound effects artist in the 1920s when sound came on film.
Film Industry Terminology
- ADR (Audio dialogue replacement)
for damaged sound or record again for that Hollywood aesthetic
- Diegetic and non-diegetic
my understanding was diegetic sound is when the characters hear the music as well as the audience however diagenetic includes sounds that the characters and audience here in the sonic world of ambience for example weather birds etc…
- Wild Tracks
non-sync sounds that are recorded to build the sound world in a film.
