Foley Studio
Moves Track
I acted as the Foley artist. We recorded the ‘moves track’ which means we recorded all the footsteps.

Equipment
- Sennheiser K6 Shotgun Microphone
Props

Engineer
My classmate Ben acted as the engineer for this Foley session.

Software
Logic Pro 2

The original plan was to use Pro Tools however we had playback signal-detecting microphones to record which we fixed with the help of the technicians. We got the ball rolling and started to use Pro Tools however we couldn’t get to loop record segments which was a problem so we switched to logic to make things simpler and utilise the time we had left.
We managed to record all the moves for my sound for the screen project. This is a great start and now the ball is rolling for my project.
Editing Foley

Blog Problems
Unfortunately, this blog website doesn’t let me show video files as they exceeded the limit! I have tried compressing video files and that still doesn’t work. It’s becoming too time-consuming therefore I will just be putting screenshots and audio files.
Practical Experimentation
I have been experimenting with editing the Foley. Using effects like EQ and reverb I really like the stylistic choice I have created.
Displaying Perspective through Sound Design
Cutting the high frequency allowing only low-frequency footsteps with reverberation creates a deaf person’s perspective.
Editing Techniques

Gain: Used to adjust level/volume in the mix.

Reverbatraion: Used to an effect to create a scene of space to the sound. Used very little wet as I don’t want to flood the mix. This is also temporary as I will be using busses for reverbs for a smoother project and better use of the frequency range.

EQ: Used to manipulate sound to achieve effect.
Automation

Pan: Used to adjust playback through left and right speakers.
Volume: Used to create an effect on the distance of a sound source.
Further Editing (27th October)

After critically listing each take I have selected the best and flattened the stacks.
Code coding is a really useful method I have applied to my work. I can quickly understand the progress of the project which allows me to work quickly and efficiently on the next steps to eventually completing the project.
Colour Code Key:
- Green = Edited Well
- Orange = Uncompete Edited
- Red = Unedited
I am unhappy with the footsteps that I recorded using a shoe as a prop therefore I am thinking of recording parts I am unhappy with.
Further Editing (30th October)

Editing through speakers makes a huge difference,
- HS5
I have readjusted gain for a better sense of the volume of the sound sources. I was really happy with the beginning part however disappointed towards the middle and end. I will have to record some footsteps to get rid of unwanted background noise when I increase the gain and use my feet, not prop shoes.
