Tom Fisher: 9th November Lecture Series 23/24 (Autumn Term)
Tom Fisher is also known as Action Pyramid.
and today’s lecture was specially set up in
quadraphonic playback
(4-speaker setup)
which made for a great-sounding lecture.
Background
He self-taught, and started working with sound as a teenager creating electronic sample-based music.
Work
Album
Mardle – Daily Rhythms of a Pond

What is ‘Pond Restoration‘? Remove trees opening up areas and allowing plant life to grow.
Ecoacoustics: Is increasingly being used to monitor species populations.
Activity recorded within the pond using hydrophones can acquire data.

Sonic Life
Sonic Life of Plants
He demonstrated that plants have their own noises they create which can’t be heard by human hearing but when plants are recorded with hydrophones amplify their sound and can be heard.
Sonic Life of Insects
Insects have noises that can only be heard through the use of hydrophone/contact microphone recordings.
I found this extremely interesting that in our world there’s a completely different world that we can’t hear…
There is still so much unknown!!
Biotremology
“is the study of production, dispersion and reception of mechanical vibrations by organisms, and their effect on behaviour.”

I would definitely be interested in investigating this topic myself further in the future.
