Auditory Sense of Time
The idea of an ‘Auditory Sense of Time‘ potentially sounds like the idea of my exhibition. I will sonically showcase, how through human evolution we now unfortunately preserve an unnatural sense of time.
I am fortunate to have my ‘home life’ of living in a rural environment where anthrophony sounds of noise pollution are minimal compared to an urban environment. The ‘biophony’ and ‘geophony’ sounds in a rural environment allow time to be sensed at a natural speed.
Fasinated by the questions of our universe understanding how perception of time is sensed through auditory and visual stimulation will be a topic I will be interested in and can let my creativity thrive.
Inspiration
Through my attendance of the sound art lecture series I learned and am fascinated by the voice of an environment. During the winter holidays I have been taking cold December walks with my Huskey Storm.

In my initial research, I’ve been learning about a ‘sense of place’…
…by spending time sitting in different places and listening to the soundscape around me. Noticing the ‘biophony’, ‘geophony’ and ‘anthrophony’ sounds. While Storm (my husky) is using her strong sense of smell to sense her environment I have my eyes closed eliminating visual stimulation to be fully immersed in sonically sensing my environment.
This activity has enhanced my ability to critically listen to an environment depicting aspects of sound for example reverberation and understand techincally how the sound travels because of the reality of the environment. The high frequencies travel and echo, while the high-decibel low frequencies of planes are lost in the woods. I love especially using my own voice as a sound that physically reacts to the environment and the voice of the environment responds, an example would be shouting “echo”. This activity made me feel more grounded and connected to the environment than ever, we have this ability to connect on different consciousness levels however the distractions of today’s society in post tecnligocal world we forgot about how powerful we are.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I will forever continue the activity of critically listening to the environment. The benefits of a sense of place are grounding, you begin to manipulate time from a natural sense of time and achieve new levels of consciousness from a sober mind state.
My previous brain stromed ideas and continuios research has lead to me finding this activity and finalising an idea I am happy with and existed to uncover. How our audioty senses presersive time? I will find out.
