Sonic Message of Gratitude

For my exhibition, I plan to imbed a sonic message and spread the importance of gratitude which contributes to positive mental health.

Past

Headphone Experience

I want to have a headphone experience of a sonic sense of time travel taking you to the past, present and future. Focusing on the ‘past experience’ I want to use the terrifying sounds of war while people look out the window to create a feeling of gratitude that we are fortunate to live in a time of peace without war.

Without lived experience through war it is truly impossible to understand how terrifying these sounds of war are and the trauma associated with them however hearing them will create an understanding of fear, terror and chaos that you can only feel grateful for after taking the headphones off and knowing as of the present moment these are not everyday sounds.

Sonic Journey Ideas

  1. Normality (Daily Life)
  2. Invasion (Army Vehicle and Personal)
  3. Sirens and Evacuation Attempts (Screams of Pannic from the Air Raid Sirens)
  4. Aftermath and results after complete devastation (Fireman Rescuing and Rebuilding)

I am inspired by the audio dramas and album skits to possibly use as template material to create a journey of the act of war in the order of these acts.

Photography Ideas

This photograph blends the past and the present. For my exhibition, I would like to create artwork in this style that visually blends the past, present and future.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the research on the terrifying sounds of war has developed ideas for my exhibition to create a sonic message of inflicting thoughts of gratitude that positively affect mental health suffers who forget how important gratitude is and that we should remind ourselves of things we are grateful for and not spend our time dwelling on negative thoughts. Today’s research was positive towards the success of my project.

Today’s research has also led me to think beyond just the sonic experience of my exhibition and begin to think about visual elements to include in my exhibition.
