Ideological Distortion
Summary – “Ideological Distortion is a piece which explores the dark side of today’s media, dilution of ideologies, and constant bombardment of confusion.”.
Qeustions & Comments
Zaron – “The voices in peace stood out to me”
Berk explained the voices were political speeches which made the connection between acousmatic music and ‘today’s media’.
I found this piece of work influential and throughout the lecture I learned about the theory behind composing acousmatic music.
Zaron – “What DAW was used to create the project”
Berk explained the order of the process beginning with contextualising a theme followed by creating a sound bank of gestural and texture (the two main elements of acousmatic music) sounds. Berk used CDP he explained it’s non-user friendly. After CDP he began editing his soundbank in Ableton which is great for sound stretching. Finally editing the final project in Logic.
What is Acousmatic Music?
Theory
Acousmatic music blurs the line between sound art and music. Acousmatic music uses sounds that must be unknown or unknowable by the ear. Most importantly acousmatic music is intended to be played back through loudspeakers in a performance setting. Rythem pulses while the pitch becomes unimportant and abounded the sound materials are the main element.
Composition Techniques
When a Human physical element hits it creates a composition connection to further texture change. Bringing in new elements.
Spectromorpholgy
Texture – Sense of Static
I have limited information on ‘Spectromorpholgy’ as I didn’t fully understand however I have noted it down for future reference.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I found today’s lesson very insightful and it has developed the idea that for my collaboration project, I want to incorporate textual elements of acousmatic music into my sound design and composition.
