Reflection
I am proud to have created 99% of all my Sound Design and Foley. The sounds are simple and are not dramatically over the top which is what the director asked for. I have created a piece of work that I am very much ready to receive feedback on in the crit session.
Behind the Scenes
Using a Sanken CMS50 Stereo Microphone Kit and H5 Zoom Field Recorder my girlfriend Alex and I recorded some amazing foley and sound effects.
Outside Ambiance
I was sent some field recordings from Hong Kong by WhatsApp voice memo however due to bad quality it wasn’t possible to use raw. With editing, I found a use to create the sound of the outside ambience adding depth into the world of the animation.

Fish Market Bags
Recording the sound of a plastic bag I created the sound of fish market bags which is a part of the culture of Hong Kong. This was a sort of successful attempt, I would like to layer the sound with more fish-like sounds for example water. Currently, the sound doesn’t do a good job for the audience to understand what the happenings on screen.

Dialogue
I have had problems with the dialogue which I have explained in previous blog posts, mainly because it has been recorded in bad quilty. I used Adobe podcast again to increase the quilty which was effective however because the voice is shouting it does not match the mood on screen.

Hair Rub
I recorded my girlfriend rubbing her hair to create this sound. We used the video to create the perfectly synced rubbing sound.

Throwing Draws
We recorded multiple sounds that we layered to create the sound of draws being thrown into the bed. We first recorded the sound of paper being dropped in the air multiple times. This was then layered. We recorded hand-hitting the bedding to replicate the sound of the draws hitting the bed. I also layered the sound of wind which makes the sound more immersive.

Light Switch
Using room tone I created a subtle change between darker and brighter tones emulating the shift from darkness to brightness. I found the nicest click made by the sound of a plug socket switch to record in my room to create a lightswitch sound effect.

Cloth Hanger
Unfortunately, I had no cloth hangers in my wardrobe however roaming around London I found an abounded suitcase with a bunch of cloth hangers that sorted this problem to create the foley for this scene. After recording the sound of cloth hangers being moved, I layered these sounds in Logic to create the sonic illusion matching the happening on screen.

Draws
An easily recorded sound was me pulling out the draws which sounded best layered with two attempts.

Kitchen
Alex and I recorded moving things in the cupboard and the kitchen reflections plus microphone positioning landed a very successful recording.

Rustled Paper
I rustled a bunch of paper together to create the illusion of notes flickering between each other. Using reverb and echos created an immersive dream state of tone that works perfectly in this animation.

Conclusion
My Foley and field recording skills have increased with this project. I have been able to layer sounds to create immersive sound design and foley that suits the happenings on screen. I have created a catalogue of my own sounds I am very proud of. I have struggled with the dialogue however I have found workarounds to fix problems. The project is ready for a crit session where I can receive peer and lecturer feedback.
