My Personal Interests
Collectively we discussed and shared our personal interests as a class.
I am interested in sonic hallucinogenic manipulation of sound for musical genres some examples include house, hard house and trance. Also for sound effects for screen or purely audio files for example soundscapes.
I am interested in a lot of musical genres to list some, house; slap house which is a sub genre of house, hardhouse, trance, DnB, liquid DnB.
Writing lyrics rhyming syllables and rhyming inner syllables is a interest of mine in a hiphop/trap style.
Current ways of making sound:
Accesses to university orb for handheld recorders, personal iphone integrated recording software, Logic Pro X, Pro Tools
My Project Idea
Capturing the sounds of London I plan to create a soundscape from a homeless person perspective, showcase the struggle to sleep in a city that never sleeps with sound.
Group Discussion
The class is working in collaboration as a collective curation. We organised a group discussion. We agreed as a group a theme, we must all create something out of our comfort zones.
My project idea is an uncomfortable listen and leaving the listen with unsettling feelings. I must step outside of my comfort zone for success.
Enrapturing a perspective though sound is definitely out of my comfort zone however its scope of creativity is so huge it excites me.
Field Recordings
Step one was to gather field recordings from a bussy street, I chose Brixton Road as it is local and also has a homeless problem.
Using my iPhones integrated recording software, I captured multiple successful field recordings.
The busy intersection right outside of Brixton police station has constant traffic, never ending police sirens. It was a great place to post up and perfect place to field record, capturing the chaos in a city that never sleeps.
I found a train overpass which was a perfect spot to take some field recordings underneath and capture natural reverberated sounds from traffic and trains passing above.
The natural reverb creates a tone of anxiety and discomfort which will work perfectly in creating a feeling of a nightmare in my soundscape.
Making a Start on the Practical
I experimented freely with a field recording and let my imagination go. I am really happy with this start and enthusiastic about working on this project because my imagination is so big with unbelievable ideas I want to bring to life.
The idea in my head is to create a nightmare with sound design and create a crazy concept and is an intense listen.
Alchemy
Alchemy is a great tool in logic to make a start to find sounds to inspire composition. Composing midi creating tones of discomfort anxiety and fear to create a nightmare.
EQ
I have cut the high end frequencies which I found creates a perspective of being aware internally inside of your own mind.
Using two audio tracks and splits, it changes between tracks with eq applied and no eq, creating a change in perspective of being aware of your own mind and then the perspective changing back to reality.
Automation
I have made a start on some early automation. Adjusting the volume to create the right sound bringing my imagination to life to allow me to keep creating and coming up with new ideas.
