Today’s session started with any questions about the hand-in and submission.
I had one about ‘Harvard Referencing’…

Project: Film Clip (A Quiet Place)
Feedback was positive however the critical feedback from Jessica included more of an external atmosphere when transitioning between perspectives.
I bring in the external ambience of life when the camera pans to the rocket which is a motif of a life of peace however the cut between sound and scene was described as sounding like a ‘mistake’. I will edit the volume and fade to adjust this mistake.
My notes from today’s session explain my other peer’s presentations about their work from this unit.

Octophonic Mixing
I set out to mix my movie in octophonic and today achieved that. It has felt gratifying and inspiring to see how far I have come from my first day of university, I thought I never understand any of the equipment.
I began by experimenting with logic plug-in…

and GRM spaces.

I began to bring the volume to zero and re-include it at a suitable volume at the same time as picking its placement in the 8-speaker setup arrangement.
I wasn’t able to change the Logic sessions mix to 7.1 SDDS because Logic isn’t fluid with spatialisation editing. Rory was able to pre-hand help me with setting up a working logic project sing 7.1 SDDS.
The problem was any premade session would require 7.1 SDDS to be selected in detail at the beginning of creating a new project. An attempt to try in a session made in any other option (mono, stereo. quad, 5.1) would default to 5.1.

This new session did not have my files however Jessica told me today a bounce using AFF could import a copy of the data into a project. This solved my issue of the time-consuming non working attempts of bouncing stems and re-including and dragging them into their time spotting note because of this today was such a success.

Bousing an AFF files you must have all files ‘bounce in place’ as stems other wise plug in information isn’t carried over and your audio will be RAW again. I found out with this one section which I retuned into my previous project and retreided a bounced copy to import and mix.
I also took onboard my teacher and peer feedback and made some final changes
Here I brought in an external ambience to place us sonically in the scenes of reality, the shift of focus had a greater effect.
I also took back the feedback to fade out the external audio to give a transition in scene continuity and an immersive feeling.

My peer feedback was that the interaction between kids was too silent so I added in low end while the kid’s finger resembles the kid’s escape plan which the low end results in a mysterious dramatic feeling of their hope of a better chance at life which is making out of this sound can kill the universe.
I also sound-designed a catch by editing a synth to sound kid behaviour like the Alian wobble effect and editing a contract microphone field recordings sounds of a choppy riser and catch sound and heartbeat. I am very happy with this sound design.
Conclusion
Today was a very successful and productive day. Presting my work and seeing others put me in a very motivational mindset for the specialised dubbing session after class in the evening. I managed to complete an octophonic mix I am very happy with as well as prepare them in bounced files of 8 tracks that have been numbered by 1-8 for easy playback for marking.

I 8 audio files assigned to each of the 8 speakers ready for submission.
